Youth Group: The Underground Church

Remember the Lord's people who are in jail and be concerned for them. Don't forget those who are suffering, but imagine that you are there with them. Hebrews 13:3

If any of you wants to be My follower, you MUST put aside your selfish ambition, shoulder YOUR cross, and follow ME. If you try to keep your life for yourself, YOU WILL LOSE IT. But if you give up your life you will find TRUE LIFE. Mark 8:34-35

Tonight after we were done tie dying we had a powerful and moving lesson about the Underground Church. We broke the teens up into three teams of four and sent them to find  a "Secret Meeting " place some where on the church property. As they searched they had to watch out for government officials who would try to stop them from getting to where they needed to be. Daniel, Cameo, Jason and Erica did a great job in making it hard for them to get to the "Secret Meeting" place. Once everyone made it to our church's very small prayer room, I started the lesson. The room which is about 7 feet by 10 feet got hot and sticky really quick with 18 people crowded into it. I read scripture and stories from Jesus Freaks Martyrs and Jesus Freaks Revolutionaries by candle light. I wanted the kids to get a taste of what people go through to hear the word of God in countries where it is illegal to preach from the bible. Although it was crowed and hot the kids sat in silence listening to every word that was read. It was amazing how respectful they were. After i was done with the lesson Aimee lead us in worship. As we all lifted our voices to the Lord singing "Open the Eye's of my heart" I could truly feel God's presents in the room. The heat, being squished, and the fact that both my legs had fallen asleep didn't seem to matter. All I could do was sit in awe of my Savior and praise Him for all He has done in my life and in the lives of all the teens I work with.

Once our little service was over the kids walked back to the youth room in complete silence. I truly think the Lord opened hearts tonight and planted seeds. God is amazing and surprises me everyday. I praise the Lord for the safety that i have by living in the USA.  And for the protection He provides for me and my family. I hope you take a moment to pray for all the Christian's around the world tonight.
